Mission to Mars Work Experience

Start your students’ journey to Mars from anywhere! A flexible, online work experience programme designed to introduce young people to real-world technology careers, with an optional in-person event in July.

Mission to Mars Work Experience

Run by Tech Cornwall, Mission to Mars is an exciting, future-focused programme that has inspired students for over a decade.

It combines flexible online learning with an optional in-person event, giving young people the chance to explore real-world technology careers.

Step 1: Remote component (Open now – July 2026)

Students start with a 20-hour online work experience they can complete at their own pace.

What’s included:

  • Structured online pathway: Around 20 hours of guided activities students can complete from school or home.
  • Real tech skills: Learn to build dependable software, use agile methods, and create a personal portfolio for CVs and interviews.
  • Hands-on challenges: Work with programmable circuits, solve problems, and develop confidence through reflective tasks.
  • Industry mentoring: Connect with tech professionals who share insights and guidance.

Students must complete the remote component by February 2026 to qualify for the in-person event.

Step 2: Optional in-person event (13–17 July 2026)

Students who finish the remote experience can apply for a two-day immersive mission in Cornwall.

They’ll put their skills into practice by building and testing the software and technology needed to reach Mars – a real-world simulation that brings learning to life.
