Flow Lab: Experience the magic of particle flow!

A hands-on workshop at Oriel Science in Swansea where students will learn how particles behave in different states by looking at fluids and granular flow.

Flow Lab: Experience the magic of particle flow!

Oriel Science, a Science Centre in Swansea city centre, is offering a free workshop for students to experience the magic of particle flow!

Students will learn how particles behave in different states by looking at fluids and granular flow. They will also explore the varied concepts by carrying out a range of hands-on activities and will become particle engineers by studying elastic fluids, yield stress materials and water repellent sand.

The workshop is linked to the National Curriculum for Wales and the activities are carefully differentiated, inclusive, and engaging, ensuring a high-quality experience that is both educational and inspiring for all participants.

This activity was made possible with Swansea University’s Complex Fluids Research Group.

Duration and availability

Lasting approximately 90 mins, the workshop can accommodate between 15 and 36 participants.

Book anytime between 10am and 3pm Tuesday to Friday during term time.

Cost and location

Each workshop is funded by the Centre's generous sponsors and is free for state schools.

This workshop is primarily delivered at the Swansea city centre venue but can also be delivered in local schools upon request. Any school interested in discussing this possibility should make a comment in the special requirements section of the online booking form.
