Tech solutions to climate change careers collection

A collection that introduces your students to engineering and technology careers using tech solutions to climate change as a focus.

The experiences and resources are free and quality assured, and can be delivered over 2 terms.

How do I use this collection?

Our research shows that young people are passionate about tackling climate change, but also worried about it. This collection of free activities, resources and case studies will help your students explore tech based solutions to climate change that will open up a world of green careers.

Follow these 6 simple steps, you will find links to the experiences and resources in the tabs, or scroll down to find them.

First term

  1. Order our free Green Careers posters for your school.
  2. Register and start your Climate Action club! Student-led Climate Action Clubs build skills and enable students to take a solutions-based approach in their school or community.
  3. Invite a Tech She Can Champion into your school. Tech She Can Champions are volunteers who visit schools virtually or in person to inspire future generations about a career in tech. They can offer a range of experiences from workshops to assemblies, supported by Tech She Can educational resources.

Second term

  1. Share our leaflet My world my future, Where STEM can take me with your students. A 4-page downloadable guide for students of all ages, with suggested STEM inspiration and career resources to explore at home, including podcasts, competitions and days out.
  2. Take part in Innovate for Climate change. A 7-session introductory computing course that supports students in creating a community focused, climate action app prototype. Students will work in pairs or teams to design and create an app prototype focused on 1 or more of the 5 climate action UN Sustainable Development Goals for a community they are familiar with and care about.
  3. Use the case studies of engineers working to combat climate change we host on Neon. Divide your students into small groups and have them discuss one of the case studies and reflect on:
    • What was the main environmental challenge addressed in the case study?
    • Why was it important to find a solution to this problem?
    • What positive impacts did the engineering solutions have on the environment and the community?
    • What aspects of the engineers' work in the case study inspire you the most?
    • What did you learn from this case study about the role of engineers in addressing climate change?
    • How has this case study influenced your thoughts about pursuing a career in engineering?
