Workshop
Code a noise monitoring system to help your pupils understand the importance of animal habitats in their school to community space.
Meet young people where they are at with a focus on nature. In The Noise Around Us pupils explore the importance of habitats for animals in their local community or school space.
Using programming constructs such as sequence, data logging and iteration, they work in pairs to produce a solution using the micro:bit to record noise activity in two different locations such as a tree or wooded area and a field or hedgerow. They work in pairs using pair programming approaches to build and test their solution. Once the data is collected they export the it to Canva where they produce a data visualisation such as a graph or infographic to help them analyse the data and make decisions. They present these findings using digital literacy skills to their teacher or headteacher with guidance on what could be done within the community or school to welcome more animals to share their space with them.
They identify how careers in Computing and Engineering can lead to using technology for good to support other creatures that share their world.
During this workshop, the pupils work in small teams and develop their problem-solving skills through pair programming and collaborative communication.
Workshops are available for KS2 pupils and best suited to students in Year 4 through to Year 6.

Workplace STEM workshops and school visits to inspire young people towards careers in STEM!
A fun introduction to STEM project work! Developed by the British Science Association, students complete either a single activity or a series of linked challenges with clear real-world contexts.
Students will complete a series of sound experiments using boomwhackers, before coming together as a class to play a song!
