Engineering Experience Wales

A hands-on, three-day residential summer course at University of South Wales that gives students the chance to immerse themselves in mechanical, electrical, and robotics engineering.

Engineering Experience Wales

This exciting programme offers young learners in Years 8 and 9 (Wales) the chance to spend several days fully immersed in creativity, hands-on STEM challenges, and problem-solving - all while building connections with like-minded peers.

During the programme, participants will explore three areas of engineering:

Mechanical Engineering - students get hands-on building and making, learning how parts fit together and why things stay strong. They design and create a special case for their project, turning ideas into something real they can hold.

Electrical Engineering - students dive into the world of wires and signals as they build their own working FM radio. With safe soldering and teamwork, they discover how tiny components come together to make sound and bring technology to life.

Robotics - students become robot trainers, teaching machines how to move, think, and react. Using Python, they program LEGO® SPIKE™ Prime robots to respond to their surroundings and complete exciting challenges.

Throughout the course, students are guided by the organiser's STEM Engagement Specialists and supported by industry volunteers, who share real-world experience and practical career advice. Evening social activities provide a fun, collaborative environment to meet peers and build confidence.
