Biomimicry - How nature inspires engineers and scientists to help us humans.

Biomimicry Show by Zoolab and EngineeringUK

Is this experience available at your school?

Check here, it just takes a second. If it's not available we'll direct you to experiences that are!

Zoolab and EngineeringUK have created a brand-new interactive Biomimicry show. It takes an up-close look at the animals that are inspiring engineers to help us humans.

With Zoolab's expert presenters and animal handlers, students will get to meet the likes of lizards, frogs, tarantulas, cockroaches and snakes as they learn about the real work engineers are doing to create new materials, robots and technologies.

The show will give students a full understanding of biomimicry and engineering, touching on topics such as:

  • Environmental issues
  • Biology and adaptations
  • Mechanical, chemical and material engineering

The show includes an experiment testing materials and a practical element with the opportunity for students to volunteer to try their hand at engineering themselves.

Students will also learn about different STEM careers with profiles of real engineers working on biomimicry inspired projects, and gain an understanding of the kinds of skills needed for different jobs.

Key information

  • Capacity of 10 to 200 students.
  • £249 + VAT for a 1 hour show. Schools attending The Big Bang Fair are eligible for a 10% discount.
  • This hands-on, interactive experience is suitable for all students and can also be adapted for SEND students - the Zoolab team will be happy to discuss accommodations on enquiry.
