This collection is designed to introduce your students to the dynamic and impactful world of energy.

Over 2 terms, through a series of engaging experiences, resources, and case studies, students will explore various aspects of the energy sector, including renewable energy, energy efficiency, and the diverse career opportunities available in this field.

How do I use this collection?

Our research shows that young people are passionate about sustainability and the role of energy in shaping our future. This collection of free activities, resources, and case studies will help your students explore careers in the energy sector.

Follow these simple steps to get started, you will find links to the experiences and resources in the tabs, or scroll down to find them.

First Term:

  1. Book onto Empowering Energy Futures: Virtual Work Experience with Siemens. Introduce your students to the world of energy with this virtual work experience from Siemens. Students will gain insights into the energy sector, learn about the latest technologies, and understand the importance of sustainable energy solutions.
  2. Log on to Skills Miner: Home Energy. Engage your students with this interactive online game that focuses on energy efficiency and home energy management. Students will learn about the importance of energy conservation and the skills needed to work in the energy sector.
  3. Order a set of our Green Careers Posters. Order our free posters showcasing careers in the energy sector. These posters include discussion points and homework tasks to inspire students.

Second Term:

  1. Register for Discover Energy with Megawatt. This hands-on experience allows students to explore the world of energy production and distribution. Through interactive modules, students will learn about different energy sources, the challenges of energy distribution, and the importance of sustainable energy practices.
  2. Share My World, My Future – Where can STEM take me? Share this downloadable guide with your students to explore STEM inspiration and career resources, including podcasts, competitions, and days out.
  3. Use the case studies of engineers working in the energy sector we host on Neon. Divide your students into small groups and have them discuss one of the case studies and reflect on:
    • What was the main energy challenge addressed in the case study?
    • Why was it important to find a solution to this problem?
    • What positive impacts did the engineering solutions have?
    • What aspects of the engineers' work in the case study inspire you the most?
    • What did you learn from this case study about the role of engineers in energy generation?
    • How has this case study influenced your thoughts about pursuing a career in engineering?
