This collection is designed to introduce your students to the exciting world of data science, computer science, and meteorology.

Over 2 terms, through a series of engaging experiences, resources, and case studies, students will explore how these fields intersect and the diverse career opportunities they offer.

How do I use this collection?

Our research shows that young people are passionate about technology and its applications in various fields. This collection of free activities, resources, and case studies will help your students explore careers in data science, computer science, and meteorology.

Follow these simple steps to get started, Follow these 6 simple steps, you will find links to the experiences and resources in the tabs, or scroll down to find them.

First Term:

  1. Book the the Met Office Careers: Data Science and Meteorological Phenomenon workshop Introduce your students to the fascinating world of meteorology and data science with this interactive experience from the Met Office. Students will learn about the role of data scientists and meteorologists in predicting weather patterns and understanding climate change.
  2. Get your students talking to a computer scientist by booking I'm a Computer Scientist, Get me out of here! Engage your students with this exciting online event where they can interact with real computer scientists. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the various career paths in computer science.
  3. Use the case studies of engineers working with data below. Divide your students into small groups and have them discuss one of the case studies and reflect on:
    • How did their education and career path lead them to their current role working in technology?
    • How did their work impact the project and the broader community?
    • How does their story inspire you in your own educational and career aspirations?
    • What qualities or skills do you admire in them that you would like to develop in yourself?

Second Term:

  1. Book the GoIT Online Experience This online program offers students a hands-on introduction to the world of IT and technology. Through a series of interactive modules, students will learn about coding, app development, and the impact of technology on society.
  2. Use our Green Careers Posters in your classroom: Order our free posters showcasing careers in data science, computer science, and meteorology. These posters include discussion points and homework tasks to inspire students.
  3. Share our My World, My Future – Where can STEM take me? downloadable guide with your students. To help them to explore STEM inspiration and career resources, including podcasts, competitions, and days out.
