Fire Powered + Wonderlab

Visit the National Railway Museum in York, and test your students' engineering skills with the Fire Powered show and the Wonderlab Gallery!

Fire Powered is a 20-minute, explosive show jam-packed with thrilling experiments and demonstrations designed to help children find out about how fire can make you move. By carefully mixing fuel, oxygen and heat, we'll demonstrate how explosions can be created and controlled to make an engine work.

Wonderlab: The Bramall Gallery is an unmissable new interactive experience for schools—where nothing is off limits. Pupils will play their way through 18 interactive exhibits and fuel their curiosity with amazing live experiments to learn the science and engineering behind the railways. Test their engineering skills as they step into the human wind tunnel, launch a rocket and build big.

The gallery enriches learning across the themes of Magnets, Forces, Energy, States of Matter, Maths, Science, Design and Technology.

Logistics and costs

The show runs several times a day for 20 minutes Monday–Friday during term time.

Capacity: 70.

Ear defenders are available for visitors who need them, as the show contains loud explosions.

Entry to Wonderlab - £5 per child. Accompanying adults are free.

Show + Wonderlab - £7.50 per child. Accompanying adults are free. This includes entry to Wonderlab and a timeslot for one show in the Weston Showspace.
