Lewis loves problem solving, and uses his skills working on decarbonisation projects to remove carbon from the exhaust gases of a power station and store it deep underground.
I always loved maths at school and solving logical problems, but I realised after my GCSEs, that I much preferred doing practical things, and getting hands-on. After A levels, I was due to start mechanical engineering at university, but that’s when I learned about RWE’s training programme.
I thought the apprenticeship programme was a great idea, you get paid while you learn. I completely loved the course, and I spent the last 2 years training as an operations and shift maintenance technician.
I’m now working full time for RWE and I’m really enjoying it. I’m still problem solving, currently working on decarbonisation projects to work out how we can remove carbon from the exhaust gases of a power station and store it deep underground.
What makes it so exciting is carbon capture has never been delivered on this scale before, so it’s all novel and there’s lots of things to learn. It will go a long way to helping the UK decarbonise its power sector by 2030.
