Super solar power!

George makes sure solar and wind power projects run smoothly at RWE. He wasn't sure what he wanted to do, but his interests and skills meant he made a great engineer!

When I was younger, there was no real moment when I chose engineering as a career, although I was pretty good at the STEM subjects. My advice to younger people is if you’re not 100% sure what to choose as a career, pick more general subjects. That’s why I chose to study mechanical engineering at university.

By doing mechanical engineering if meant that there were many jobs I could apply for, and that has opened the door to where I work now at RWE, working in the construction team on massive projects for onshore wind and solar farms.

My job is project managing, so that means making sure the people we employ do the best job possible. It feels a bit like being a teacher. On the one hand, I have to make sure they get to work on time and deliver their projects on time. On the other hand, I have to encourage them and guide them.

Ultimately, it’s about making the world a better and more sustainable place, that’s what gets me excited about coming to work every day.
