Emma works for RWE as a rotating equipment engineer. She loves working on cars and motorbikes, which drove her passion to become an engineer!
I always loved working with engines. I remember since I was young, I helped my dad and my grandad, working on motorbikes and cars.
Then I finally got my first motorbike, and I loved changing the oil, taking the engine apart and putting it back together. And that’s where my love really took off. So when I was choosing my career, the choice for me was obvious. I wanted to become a mechanical engineer, but I faced a lot of challenges in Italy. So I decided to come to the UK to follow my dream.
After I finished studying, my first job was working in the maintenance department of an oil refinery. That’s the first time I saw a gas turbine and I really enjoyed the work. I’m still working with engines for RWE, in power stations with gas turbines on a much larger scale, and I’m part of a team responsible for keeping the country’s lights on.
My message to young women if you want to start a career in engineering is to follow your dreams. If you really want it, you can get it.
