This virtual work experience programme will help lay the foundations as students explore the rail industry and the wide variety of roles within it.

Routes into Rail virtual work experience

Springpod and Routes Into Rail have partnered up to provide students aged 15+ with a fantastic virtual work experience programme.

What to expect

This programme will introduce students to the rail industry - from driving and engineering to data analytics and sustainability management.

Students will discover roles you may not have considered and the various ways to enter them.

They will complete a series of quizzes and activities to help build their understanding of the industry, finishing the programme with a downloadable certificate.

Logistics

This is a free virtual programme, open for self study between 7 August and 31 December 2023, with a commitment of around 7 hours to receive a certificate of completion.

Application deadline is 31 December.

Learning outcomes

  • Improve engagement, interest or enjoyment in STEM subjects

  • Learning what the engineering workplace is like

  • Develop engineering employability skills

  • Improve awareness and aspirations for STEM-related study and careers

  • Challenge stereotypes by showing the diversity of disciplines, people and skills involved in engineering
