Workshop

EPIC Engineers

Explore careers in transport infrastructure and develop the skills to become EPIC (Extraordinary People Initiating Change).

EPIC Engineers
Rosette

This free full-day workshop highlights the ‘EPIC’ nature of the challenges that engineers face and showcases the creative, technology-driven solutions used in the railway and transport infrastructure industries.

Workshops are led by an experienced facilitator and supported by volunteers from the transport infrastructure sector, who help to relate the activities to real life work situations.

Students will learn about and reflect on their essential skills throughout the day, and improve their knowledge about sustainability, design and construction as they work in teams to complete the following engineering challenges:

  • Stations of the future: Design a railway station of the future, considering future trends and the needs of diverse customers.
  • Tunnel Builders: A design and make challenge, in which students build a railway tunnel structure and test its stability.
  • Rail Rush! board game: Students make strategic, ethical and cost decisions, working in collaboration to build a rail network for Britain.
