EEP Robotics Challenge

Teams can build, program and control their LEGO® robots and present an engineering-focused environmentally-themed research project via online sessions and competition.

EEP Robotics Challenge

This isn’t a one-off challenge. It’s a programme that gets your students working together to solve real-world engineering, technology and computing challenges.

Your student team will learn how to build, program and control autonomous LEGO® robots to complete a series of short, exciting environmental engineering missions using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 sets. From speed racing to recycling, they’ll demonstrate their skills through online portfolio’s that will be celebrated through digital events.

The journey starts in your school and could take your team all the way from regional digital heats to the UK final. You’ll have our help along the way, with free digital training and equipment.

Teams will discover more about careers through digital STEM Ambassador volunteers, but we also encourage support from STEM Ambassador volunteers in school throughout your learning journey. The challenge will open potential new careers to your students and help put their school learning into context.

The challenge aims to support the STEM curriculum, along with computing, and design and technology. We also encourage and have successfully worked with a very diverse range of young people from all backgrounds and abilities.

Capacity
Minimum of 4 participants, maximum of 25 participants. Maximum of 10 students per school can attend competitions to represent your school.

Cost
Places are limited with applications closing mid-November 2020. Accepted schools will be notified before end 2020. Training, 2 x LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 robots and environmentally themed challenge activity packs are provided free of charge. Teacher cover and other costs are to be covered by the school; however, some bursaries are available if this is not possible for some schools.

Duration
The main programme will run between January to June 2021 but can carry on throughout the academic year. We recommend a minimum of 12 x 1-hour sessions plus time to prepare for the competition day.

Log in to write a testimonial
It is difficult not to 'over-enthuse' about the excitement, confidence and interpersonal skills it actively encourages and instils in the students... As the scheme is curriculum-based, it is easy to gauge what a major influence it is on their GCSE choices.
